Math Strategies
3. Small Groups and Partners
This is an activity that arranges students in groups based on their need for instruction in a specific skill. It is usually only for a few lessons, and allows the students to work together to answer questions rather than the teacher telling them.
- The teacher will begin with observing and documenting the many language levels in the classroom.
- The teacher will then review the needs for instruction.
- The teacher will then design and implement the lessons.
- Then the teacher will pair up the students.
- Then the teacher will identify and train the students who stand out to be potential tutors.
- Then the teacher will match the students again.
- Then the teacher will model the task and provide support and practice.
- Lastly the teacher will have the students share their progress and new knowledge.
