- The teacher must begin by identifying unfamiliar words in reading selections
- Write the unfamiliar words on chart paper and explore their meanings orally
- Have the students act out the words whenever possible
- Introduce synonyms and add them to the word collection with the original word
- Provide the students with vocabulary journals and challenge them to find ways to use the new words
- Assess to determine the need for further instruction
Ways it can be viewed in the classroom:
-The teacher can have the students complete Double Entry Word Journal
(which explains the word and how it is used)
(which explains the word and how it is used)
-The teacher can also have the students create checklist with the words and synonyms of how the words can be used and then how it is used in the text.
