Florida Educational Standards
5th Grade:
1. LAFS.5.RL.1.2 Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.
6th Grade:
2. LAFS.6.RI.4.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
7th Grade:
3. LAFS.7.RL.3.7 Compare and contrast a written story, drama, or poem to its audio, filmed, staged, or multimedia version, analyzing the effects of techniques unique to each medium (e.g., lighting, sound, color, or camera focus and angles in a film).
8th Grade:
4. LAFS.8.RL.1.3 Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision.
9th Grade:
5. LAFS.1112.RL.3.7 Analyze multiple interpretations of a story, drama, or poem (e.g., recorded or live production of a play or recorded novel or poetry), evaluating how each version interprets the source text. (Include at least one play by Shakespeare and one play by an American dramatist.)
ESOL Performance Standards
1. 2.3.b Demonstrate understanding of similarities and differences between L1 (home language) and L2 (second language) literacy development.
2. 3.2.e. Provide standards- based reading instruction appropriate for ELL's diverse backgrounds and at varying English Profiency levels.
3. 3.2.g. Develop ELL's writing through a range of activities, from sentence formation to expository writing.
4. 3.2.k Provide instruction that integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing for ELL's of diverse backgrounds and varying English Profiency levels.
5. 4.1.d. Plan learning tasks for particular needs of students with limited formal schooling (LFS).
