Student Literature Strategies
4. Repetition and Innovation
- Involves using a piece of text in several different ways to reinforce understanding and the gradual integration of the text's vocabulary and concepts into the speaking and writing vocabulary of the students.
-Text is explored in many ways, with the students finally rewriting the text to create innovation on the original text.
- The teacher must choose a book that will sustain interest over time, the students should enjoy reading the book many times and analyzing it in great detail.
- The teacher must allow the class to explore the structure of the story.
- The teacher must then play with words and have the students substitute words they don't understand.
- The teacher must then allow the students to create an alternate text/version of that section of the story.
- Then the teacher shall encourage innovation on the text, such as circular story charts and etc.
- Lastly the teacher must assess the students work and document vocabulary and comprehension.
