Student Literature Strategies
2. RTI for English Language Learners
- RTI is Response Intervention
-It is an instructional delivery model that is designed to ensure early identification of at-risk learners and the provision of appropriate services for those learners.
-These strategies support teachers in documenting, analyzing, and adjusting instruction to ensure that English language learners are supported in acquiring English and content-area knowledge and learning strategies.
- The teacher should begin by identifying students' English language development levels, strengths, and learning levels through assessment.
- Use assessment results to identify areas to be addressed by differentiated instruction and possible approaches to use.
- Document the assessment results and RTI plan, including length of intervention, plans for updating assessment, and parent involvement.
- Observe and document student responses to intervention as well as academic and language development progress.
- Adjust interventions when student progress slows or when students meet standards.
- Ask for assistance from the school student study team when student progress is slow or lacking.
- Continue to use assessment and documentation to support the instructional approaches used.
